Platform Wikis

Steuben Greens and Greens across the state have been charged with the task of voting on a first draft of proposed revisions to the state Green Party platform by February 21, 2006. During our meeting on November 15, 2004, the Steuben County Green Party adopted a resolution put forth by Darin Robbins to create and utilize a Wiki-based website to revise and update the state platform. Mike Povoski has created a wiki website for us to use. This site serves as our commitment to the state platform process, and we hope that Greens across the state will use it to our collective advantage.

Steuben County Green Party Platform Draft for 2006

This document started as a blank page. It is a place to build up a county platform from scratch, using the "Ten Key Values" as a very basic outline.

NYS Green Party Platform Draft for 2006

This started as a copy of the platform as adopted by the NYS Green Party in 1998. There are some formatting errors, and the style is not consistent throughout the document. There are also factual statements that have likely changed in the last six years, and many statements that should have citations. With your help we will have something clean and professional to send to the state committee by February.

State Platform Wiki Resolution

Drafted by Darin Robbins. Adopted at the Steuben Greens Meeting Nov. 15, 2004. Adopted by the GPNY state committee meeting Jan. 22, 2005

WHEREAS: The Green Party of New York state's platform has not been revised since 1998, while public events has changed dramatically since then, and;

WHEREAS: There is a great need for collaboration among Green Party members within the state when revising the platform, while there is a short deadline for this revision process, and;

WHEREAS: The Green Party would be greatly assisted by advances in communications technology that has emerged since the last state platform revision, so be it; and

WHEREAS: The platform of any political party must be a living document that is continually open to change based on the will of party members, so be it;

RESOLVED: That the Green Party of New York shall use the online tool known as a wiki, which is an editable website, to discuss possible revisions to the state platform. Use of a wiki allows anyone in the Green Party with an Internet connection to suggest changes or additions to the platform, while allowing the State Committee to retain a degree of oversight to avoid spam or outside interference, thus keeping a balance between open collaboration between party members and a focused objective.
